Sypnosis:

"Secret Sunshine" opens on a fable: a gentle young widow, a piano teacher, goes to a small town with her child. It is her husband's hometown, and the early signs are promising: people seem welcoming, the pharmacist smiles at her, and her small son adapts to his new school.

She also meets a car mechanic - a lumbering awkward man - who trails her, faithful-dog style.

But things are not as they seem and her life takes a tragic turn.

Bong Soo is a lovesick bank teller who can't get marriage off his mind. He records videos for his future wife, telling her how curious he is to find out who she will turn out to be. When he meets a former classmate, he thinks he's finally found his match. Meanwhile, a teacher who works across the street from his bank is secretly in love with him. After a few accidental meetings, she works up the courage to ask him out, but is rudely rebuffed.

Ultimately this movie feels like a comfortable old pair of jeans. While it makes no effort to jump out and grab one's attention, viewers will be pulled in by its light humor and the way it makes its characters' lives feel so familiar.

Sypnosis:

A prologue in this viciously purring Korean comedy of sexual conquest observes of the film's characters, "One is led to doubt whether indeed they existed." Well, one doubts that the smiling land sharks Lord Cho-Won (Bae Yong-Jun) and his cousin Lady Cho (Lee Mi-Sook) cruised the finest homes of 18th-century Korea anyway, since this film uses the Christopher Hampton version of Choderlos de Laclos's "Liaisons Dangereuses" as inspiration. The writer and director E J-Yong has retooled the social context, adding a threat of religious persecution to the material.

The prim, repressed and virginal Lady Chung (Jeon Do-Yeon, in a complex performance), the object of Cho-Won's pursuit, attends Catholic services that have been outlawed. He exploits Lady Chung's underground worship, enjoying the increasing conspiracy. Many of the plot mechanisms from "Liaisons" remain in place for "Untold Scandal." Cho-Won's primary mission is to win bedding privileges from his equally heartless cousin, Lady Cho. To do so, he must seduce and impregnate another virgin, So-oak (So-yeon Lee), before she becomes a concubine.

The director employs the misanthropy and sexual hostility that Mr. Hampton used as a gravitational pull in his "Liaisons," which makes Cho-Won's sudden glimmers of humanity comic and tragic. Sypnosis:

An unmarried farmer who's pushing forty and looking to finally settle down. Although he signs up for a deal that would have gotten him a bride from the Philippines, Seok-Joong doesn't follow through on the scheme, deciding instead to wait around for Ms. Right to show up. And sure enough, show up she does, as Seok-Joong meets her in the form of Eun-Ha (Jeon Do-Yeon), a pretty waitress at a local coffee shop. However, Eun Ha isn't just any waitress; it turns out she provides more services than just coffee to her happy customers. Will they relationship be a 'happily ever after' story or will it be others will news of Eun-Ha's past catching up with her.
