Sypnosis:

Impending death is often the impetus for romance in Korean films, but Maundy Thursday is a bit different from the rest. Based on Kong Ji Young's famous novel, Maundy Thursday is both a tender love story and a sensitive look at the capital punishment system. The title refers to Holy Thursday, or the feast day before Easter commemorating the Last Supper, and the film makes use of the stolen time between uncertain life and certain death to present an unlikely romance about a suicidal young woman and a death row prisoner. Director Song Hae Sung (Failan) and actors Kang Dong Won (Duelist) and Lee Na Young (Who are You?) paint a delicate portrait with compelling characters, subtle political undertones, and commentary on the value of life.

University lecturer Yu Jung (Lee Na Young) does not trust her surroundings and does not believe in love. Troubled by a traumatic past, she has attempted suicide many times. At her aunt's urging, she reluctantly enters therapy and meets convicted murderer and death row prisoner Yun Su (Kang Dong Won). Drawn to each other, two people with no will to live find a new motivation for life: a meeting every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

You've Got Mail goes to Korea with Who Are You?, a surprisingly winning romance that manages to be as charming as it is predictable. Cho Seung-Woo is Kyung-Tae, a co-founder of "Who Are You?", an online role-playing game which functions as both a dating simulation and an online chatroom. Now entering beta testing, the game affords the chance for Kyung-Tae to meet In-Joo (Lee Na-Young), one of the game's many beta testers. She happens to work at an aquarium in the same building as Kyung-Tae lives and sleeps (as a game designer, he never leaves the office), and quickly interests him with her mildly off-kilter behavior and independent attitude.

Na Young-ju, a 25-year-old self-centered girl who works has a public official, has always labelled herself as an unlucky person. Nothing really exiting ever happens in her life and she never has the chance to find a boyfriend either; her shyness being one of the problems. Everything changes, though, the day she is designated by her office group to be the employee who will take an English class. Nobody at the office can speak English, which is a big problem when English customers come to them.

Park Moon-su, a playboy who works as a clerk in a shoe shop, decides to take English class simply for the sole reason that he has always thought that pick-up lines sounded much sexier in English and because he would like to be able to communicate with his sister who was sent to America for adoption when she was younger.

Na Young-ju’s and Park Moon-su’s fate will finally cross paths during the first English class. Young-ju thinks that she’s finally found her prince charming, however, Hyuk only has eyes for Catherine, the cute English teacher.
